Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann made a significant announcement after a student questioned the state's ranking system during an interaction with meritorious students. The state government had organized the ‘Sitare Zameen Te’ programme to felicitate top-performing students of Classes 8, 10, and 12. During the event, a student from Amritsar asked why students with identical marks were assigned different ranks based on age rather than academic performance.
Responding to the query, Bhagwant Mann said that all students securing the same marks deserved equal recognition. He immediately directed officials to award a joint first rank to students who achieved identical scores instead of deciding rankings based on age. Delhi's former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who was present at the event, appreciated the student's confidence in questioning the policy and welcomed the government's decision to revise the ranking system.
