Gig workers employed in the delivery and e-commerce sectors have called for a nationwide strike on May 31st. The strike is being held to protest against issues such as deteriorating working conditions, declining incomes, safety concerns, and lack of social security. Delivery personnel working for apps like Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto, Blinkit, Amazon, and Flipkart have announced that they will be suspending their services.
They are demanding that gig workers be provided with basic rights such as health insurance, accident coverage, and pension benefits. They have urged the central and state governments to fulfill a total of nine key demands. Labor unions have stated that delivery services in several cities are likely to be affected by this strike.
