

Amid rising global fertilizer prices due to the war in West Asia, the central government has significantly increased subsidies on fertilizers for the 2026 Kharif season. The total subsidy on phosphate and potash fertilizers has been raised to ₹41,534 crore, up from ₹37,216 crore in the 2025 Kharif season. The cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Modi, approved this increase. The new subsidy will be effective from April 1 to September 30, 2026.
For the 2026 Kharif season, the government has raised the nitrogen subsidy from ₹43.02 per kg to ₹47.32 per kg. The phosphate subsidy has increased from ₹47.96 to ₹52.76 per kg, and the sulfur subsidy from ₹2.87 to ₹3.16 per kg. No change has been made to the potash subsidy, which remains at ₹2.38 per kg.
