The Union Budget has introduced two important decisions aimed at supporting the welfare of fishermen. The central government has completely removed the import duty on fish caught by Indian vessels in international waters. This move is expected to bring significant relief to boat owners involved in deep-sea fishing.
In addition, the exemption limit on import duty for raw materials used in shrimp and fish processing has been increased from 1 percent to 3 percent. This decision is seen as beneficial for the aquaculture industry and is likely to support growth in the fisheries sector.
