The final film of actor Thalapathy Vijay, Jana Nayakudu, has been postponed following unresolved censor board issues. For the past two days, the film has been facing certification problems. Arguments held in court on Wednesday did not result in immediate relief for the makers, as the court reserved its order and announced that the final verdict will be delivered on January 9. Until then, the film will not be allowed for release.
As a result, the makers have officially postponed the film’s release. Jana Nayakudu will not be released not only in Telugu and Hindi languages but also across Tamil Nadu. Theatres in Chennai have already announced that ticket amounts will be refunded to customers who made advance bookings. Overseas distributor RFT Films has also confirmed that the film’s release has been postponed. This development has caused disappointment among Vijay’s fans, who are expressing concern and alleging that the film is being deliberately obstructed.
Every film requires a censor certificate for release, which determines which scenes or dialogues must be modified or removed. Jana Nayakudu was initially sent for certification and the censor board recommended certain cuts. The makers complied and resubmitted the film, but the certificate has still not been issued.
Following the delay, KVN Productions filed a petition in the Madras High Court. Arguments are currently ongoing and the court is expected to pronounce its verdict on Friday morning. If the judgment is in favor of the makers, the censor board may issue the certificate by Friday or, at the latest, by Saturday. This could potentially lead to the film’s release within the next two to three days. Otherwise, the makers will have to announce a new release date.
