Kayadu Lohar Slams Objectification of Women

Kollywood’s young actress Kayadu Lohar is currently busy with films such as ‘The Paradise’, ‘Immortal’ and Suriya 48. Her latest romantic love and suspense thriller ‘Immortal’ has hit theatres and is receiving a positive response. During the film’s promotions, Kayadu made strong comments about the way women are portrayed in the film industry. Responding to a question about visuals in the trailer that zoom from her face towards her lips, she said she would never accept women being portrayed merely as objects.

Kayadu clarified that she may agree to such scenes only to a limited extent if they are genuinely required by the story and add value to the character. However, she strongly opposed using such visuals simply to attract viewers or create trends on Instagram and other social media platforms. She said such portrayals make her uncomfortable and that she would never approve of them. Kayadu also acknowledged that speaking out against such practices in the film industry is difficult, noting that individual voices are often dismissed by saying that things have always been this way. She cited the film ‘Peddi’, which faced criticism and controversy over its portrayal of women, as an example that deserves discussion.
