Several significant decisions to support and stabilize the Tamil film industry were made at the general body meeting of the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC), which was held in Chennai on Sunday. The council's main goals were to alleviate producers' financial strain and revitalize the theater industry, which has been impacted by shifting consumer habits and declining box office receipts.
The adoption of a revenue-sharing scheme for high-profile movies was one of the main resolutions. Instead of receiving their entire payment up front, producers will split profits and losses with top actors and technicians under this arrangement. Leading actors Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay, Ajith, Suriya, Sivakarthikeyan, Dhanush, Vikram, and Vishal were urged to back this action by the TFPC. The OTT streaming window was extended to increase theater earnings; large films can only be streamed online 6–8 weeks after their theatrical release, while medium-sized films can do so after 6 weeks.
In order to promote affordability and transparency, the council also asked the Tamil Nadu government to implement a state run online ticketing system with reduced service fees. To guarantee that smaller and mid-budget films have equitable access to theaters, a Film Release Regulation Committee will be established. The TFPC also urged filmmakers to prioritize theatrical releases over web series and decided to take action against YouTube channels and unapproved award events that misuse film content. The state government's ongoing assistance, which included tax breaks, land distribution for film crews, and expedited shooting permits, was acknowledged by the council.
