At a function held at the ITC Kakatiya in Hyderabad, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Buddha Sasana and Religious Affairs, Dr. Sunil Senevi, officially launched the title song of the film “King Buddha – We Want World Peace.” He praised Satya Reddy’s commendable initiative, which calls for an end to ongoing conflicts across the world, including wars between Iran–Israel and Ukraine–Russia, as well as unrest in nearly 50 countries.
He appreciated the film’s global production approach, noting that it was initiated in the United States and has been filmed across several Buddhist-majority countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Indonesia. He expressed happiness over the team’s efforts and assured full support for upcoming shoots in Sri Lanka. He also stated that “King Buddha” could become the only film in history to be shot across so many Buddhist nations, and hoped that it would receive cooperation from all Buddhist countries.
Highlighting global concerns, he recalled the devastating impact of nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, noting that they still have not fully recovered. He emphasized that Buddhism is the only path to achieving world peace and preventing a third world war. He further mentioned that thousands of Buddhist monks worldwide are conducting peace walks, which are being supported by millions of people across the globe. Dr. Senevi also shared that he had viewed some scenes from the Hollywood portions of King Buddha and praised director Satya Reddy for his excellent cinematic execution. On this occasion, he was felicitated by the film’s unit with floral garlands and shawls.
Speaking at the event, director Satya Reddy expressed that completing King Buddha would make his 30-year cinematic journey truly meaningful, as it allows him to present the life story of Gautama Buddha to the world. He announced that the film is planned for a worldwide release in over 100 languages in 2027. He also revealed that the film is being made using some of the most advanced technology ever used in cinema. Currently, scenes depicting the birth, childhood and education of Gautama Buddha are being filmed in Nepal, including locations such as the Himalayas, Lumbini and Kathmandu. Noted writer Vibhooth and other dignitaries attended the event.
