Actress and television anchor Anasuya Bharadwaj has responded to the controversy surrounding her earlier comments on Hinduism and Sanatana Dharma. Her remarks triggered criticism on social media, with some users and Hindu organisations alleging that she had made disrespectful comments about the faith.
Responding to the controversy, Anasuya said that her statements had been deliberately taken out of context and presented in a negative manner. She clarified that she does not intend to insult any religion and respects all faiths equally. She also stated that she follows Sanatana Dharma and has complete faith in her religion, values and beliefs.
The controversy reportedly began after Anasuya spoke about the use of the slogan “Jai Shri Ram” in connection with incidents of violence. She argued that merely chanting religious slogans is not enough and that a person’s conduct is more important. Her comments were subsequently interpreted by some as criticism of Sanatana Dharma, leading to a strong reaction on social media.
Anasuya has now attempted to clarify her position, saying that her comments were directed at acts of violence carried out in the name of religion rather than against Sanatana Dharma itself. She also highlighted her devotion to Lord Rama and explained that her faith has a personal significance in her life.
