Malayalam Actress Gets Six Times Her Usual Fee?

The remuneration being offered to actresses from other industries in Telugu cinema has once again become a topic of discussion. With filmmakers reportedly looking beyond the local pool of actresses for certain roles, performers from Malayalam and other film industries are increasingly being cast in Telugu projects. Malayalam actress Merin Philip is set to make her Telugu debut with ‘Anumana Pakshi’. In an interview, she reportedly revealed that she was paid nearly six times the remuneration she usually receives in her home industry for the film.

There has also been industry buzz that actresses such as Mamitha Baiju and Anaswara Rajan have received substantial remuneration for Telugu projects. The subject has reportedly sparked discussion in the Malayalam film industry as well. Producers, however, maintain that higher production costs and longer shooting schedules in Telugu cinema contribute to the remuneration offered to actresses. Starring Raag Mayur in the lead, ‘Anumana Pakshi’ is directed by ‘DJ Tillu’ fame Vimal Krishna and is scheduled to release on September 25. The film’s reception could determine whether Merin Philip receives more opportunities in Telugu cinema.
