Doctors have warned that the growing dependence on instant foods, packaged meals, and long-shelf-life beverages due to modern lifestyle pressures is posing serious health risks. According to a long term study conducted by researchers from the University of Paris City on over 105,000 participants, certain preservatives used in packaged foods are significantly increasing cancer risk. The findings, published in the reputed BMJ journal, highlight the hidden dangers lurking in everyday processed foods.
Commenting on the study, medical experts said chemicals such as potassium sorbate, sodium nitrite, nitrates, sulphites, and acetates are strongly linked to higher cancer incidence. Doctors explained that these preservatives can trigger chronic inflammation, weaken immunity, and create conditions favorable for cancer cell growth, particularly increasing breast cancer risk in women and prostate cancer risk in men. They strongly advise people to prefer fresh, home-cooked food and carefully check ingredient labels before consuming packaged products.
