Certain yoga practices and facial exercises can be included in a daily wellness routine to keep facial muscles active. One suggested practice is Matsyasana-inspired facial movement, in which a person sits in Vajrasana, closes their eyes and shapes their lips like a fish's mouth before slowly returning to a relaxed position. In a forehead exercise, the eyebrows are raised and gently held with the fingers for a count of ten before being lowered. Another exercise involves filling the cheeks with air and slowly releasing it, followed by a gentle massage of the cheeks, neck and chin.
Other suggested movements include gently holding the forehead and head with both hands while keeping the face still, lifting the cheeks with the palms while repeatedly chanting 'Om', and gently pulling the lips downward using the thumb and index finger. These exercises should be performed without applying excessive pressure or straining the facial muscles. While they may form part of a relaxation routine, there is limited scientific evidence that facial exercises can significantly change facial structure or remove wrinkles. Anyone experiencing pain or discomfort should stop immediately.
