The Central Government has approved a one-year extension for Praveen Sood as Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation, extending his tenure until May 2027. Praveen Sood’s current term was originally scheduled to conclude on May 24, 2026. According to official orders issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the extension was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) based on the recommendations of the high-level selection committee.
A 1986-batch IPS officer from the Karnataka cadre, Praveen Sood will now continue to lead India’s premier investigative agency for another year. The selection panel also included Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant. The extension decision came shortly after a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during which Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi reportedly submitted a two-page dissent note regarding the appointment process. The development has drawn significant political attention in national circles.
