The Telangana government is preparing an advance action plan to address the possible impact of El Niño and potential rainfall deficits across the country. Ministers Tummala Nageswara Rao, D. Anasuya Seethakka and Vakiti Srihari said all departments must work together to ensure that farmers and the public do not face difficulties.
A state-level workshop on El Niño and advance preparedness across various government sectors was held on Friday at TGIRD in Rajendranagar. The ministers said El Niño should not be viewed only as a disaster but should also be addressed through advance planning and coordinated development measures.
They called for agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries, Panchayat Raj and rural development departments to work together at the village level. Comprehensive development plans should be prepared for every village, covering both immediate requirements and long-term needs over the next five to ten years.
The ministers also stressed the planned use of VB-G Ramji funds and the creation of permanent community assets through employment guarantee funds. Water conservation was given particular importance, with proposals including soak pits for every household, farm ponds for agricultural fields and recharge ponds for villages.
They further directed officials to prepare village development plans through Gram Sabhas, geo-tag every project and ensure that public funds are not wasted. Works that benefit a larger number of people and provide multiple advantages through a single project should receive priority.
