

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of the recent explosion at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. The move comes amid criticism from labour unions, which alleged that safety protocols were not properly followed at the plant, leading to the tragic incident. The commission has expressed concern over the reported loss of lives and injuries caused by the explosion.
The NHRC has issued notices to the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh and directed the state government to submit a detailed report within two weeks. The commission has also sought information regarding compensation provided to the families of those who lost their lives and those injured in the accident. The report is expected to include the circumstances surrounding the incident and the measures taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
