Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged people across the country to prioritise locally made products during festivals, saying this would support artisans and help realise the vision of a self-reliant India. Speaking during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio programme on Sunday, he highlighted the growing reach of Indian products in international markets. He cited the export of makhana from Bihar to Greece and pigeon peas from Karnataka to the Maldives as examples of new opportunities for Indian farmers. Noting that people often purchase gifts for family members and friends during festivals, Modi appealed to them to choose products made by local artisans. He said such purchases would encourage craftspeople, strengthen their livelihoods and help promote Indian products in domestic and global markets.
Modi also highlighted inspiring initiatives from different parts of the country. He praised the Kheti Virasat Mission for encouraging cotton farmers in Punjab’s Malwa region to adopt traditional organic farming practices. He also appreciated efforts to conserve the Heval River in Uttarakhand’s Tehri Garhwal district through rainwater conservation and large-scale plantation drives. The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction that the e-Sanjeevani telemedicine service had facilitated 500 million consultations. Reflecting on the 12 years of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, he described the programme as a spiritual journey that had helped him connect with people and understand their efforts, sacrifices and spirit of service. He added that the affection expressed by listeners was an invaluable asset to him.
