The Meghalaya Government has approached the Supreme Court challenging the bail granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the sensational honeymoon murder case. The state sought cancellation of the Meghalaya High Court’s order, arguing that granting bail to the main accused was legally unsustainable. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the Supreme Court that the bail was granted due to a typographical error in the arrest documents, which was not a serious legal flaw.
The government also argued that Sonam could abscond if allowed to remain on bail. Taking note of the submissions, a Bench of Justice M.M. Sundresh and Justice Shail Nagu agreed to list the matter for hearing on Friday. The victim’s family has also opposed Sonam’s bail, demanding strict action in the high-profile murder case.
