Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor was sworn in as the MLA from Bihar’s Bankipur Assembly constituency on Monday. He took the oath at the Bihar Legislative Assembly in the presence of Speaker Prem Kumar, formally beginning his tenure as a legislator. Kishor’s entry into the Assembly comes after his landmark victory in the Bankipur by-election, marking the first electoral win for the Jan Suraaj Party.
Kishor defeated BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar in the August 3 by-election, ending the BJP’s long-standing hold over the Bankipur seat. Election reports put Kishor’s vote tally at 63,203, with a winning margin of 18,953 votes. The victory was significant as the BJP had held the Patna constituency since 1995. After taking oath, Kishor described becoming a member of the Assembly as a matter of pride and said it was a major responsibility to work for the people of Bankipur and Bihar.
