Massive Telangana Police Crackdown on Child Labour

Telangana Police rescued 6,307 children across the state during Operation Muskaan-12, conducted from July 1 to July 31 to curb child labour and child trafficking. The month long operation was carried out under the supervision of the Women Safety Wing in coordination with the Women & Child Welfare Department, Labour Department, Health Department, Child Welfare Committees, District Child Protection Units, and NGOs.

Among the rescued children, 5,041 were child labourers, while others included street children, beggars, runaway children, and victims of child marriage and illegal adoption. Police registered 1,705 cases, arrested 1,710 persons, and imposed penalties through the Labour Department. Out of the rescued children, 5,737 were reunited with their families, while 570 were shifted to child care institutions. Officials said Telangana has once again set an example in combating child labour and trafficking.
