The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has flagged serious lapses in financial discipline by the Assam government in its Audit Report for 2024–25. According to the report, the state government spent ₹509.59 crore in 13 separate cases without any budget provision or re-appropriation order, violating Article 204 of the Constitution of India.
The expenditure was reportedly incurred under the category of Public Debt and Servicing of Debt without inclusion in the original budget, supplementary approval, or official re-appropriation orders. The audit observations have raised concerns over financial management and adherence to constitutional procedures within the Assam government. The report is expected to trigger political and administrative discussions over accountability and transparency in public spending.
