Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has announced a comprehensive action plan titled “Swachh Godavari – Sacred Pushkaralu” to ensure pollution-free Godavari Pushkaralu. The plan focuses on making 262 identified panchayats across six districts free from sewage discharge and preventing the release of pollutants into the Godavari River. Authorities have been directed to establish continuous monitoring systems, including a real-time control room on the lines of RTGS, to oversee sewage management in villages and towns as well as industrial pollution. A high-level task force will be assigned to supervise pollution control measures across major river systems.
Officials revealed that nearly 8.38 million liters of rural sewage is entering the Godavari River daily, prompting the need for urgent intervention. The government has proposed the construction of infrastructure such as magic drains and community soak pits in villages to manage wastewater effectively. Coordination meetings involving departments of Panchayati Raj, Rural Development, Forest, Environment, and Pollution Control have been conducted to implement the plan efficiently. The Deputy CM also instructed officials to utilize available funds from relevant agencies to ensure timely execution before the Pushkaralu.
