Japan has successfully completed the first test of its experimental reusable rocket, RV-X. The spacecraft achieved a safe takeoff and landing, briefly hovering in the air before moving sideways and landing at a designated spot. The entire flight lasted less than a minute. The test was conducted at the Noshiro Testing Center in northeastern Japan, marking a significant milestone in the country’s space technology development.
The reusable rocket project is being developed jointly by Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Inspired by cost-reduction strategies pioneered by SpaceX, Japan aims to lower the cost of space launches. The RV-X rocket, measuring 7.3 meters in height and 1.8 meters in width, is expected to support the development of next-generation launch vehicles beyond the current H3 series.
