Water Dispute Erupts Again Between AP and Telangana

A fresh water dispute has reportedly surfaced between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, with Nagarjuna Sagar becoming the centre of the latest disagreement. According to the information available, Andhra Pradesh officials attempted to release water through the right canal without prior approval from the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB), prompting objections from Telangana authorities. Amid the dispute, 2,000 cusecs were released through the right canal for Andhra Pradesh, while Telangana released another 2,000 cusecs through the left canal.

The developments have reportedly created tension around the Nagarjuna Sagar project, with officials from both states raising objections over water releases and utilisation. The latest dispute comes at a time when the two states are already engaged in discussions over the sharing and utilisation of Krishna waters. The KRMB’s recent deliberations have also highlighted differences between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over the use of Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar waters, with drinking-water requirements being given priority amid concerns over water availability.
