Telangana is set to publish the draft electoral rolls today after completing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. According to reports, around 73,39,234 voters, accounting for 21.70% of the electorate, are proposed to be left out of the draft rolls. As a result, the total number of electors is expected to decline from around 3.38 crore to approximately 2.64 crore. The draft rolls will provide voters an opportunity to verify whether their names and details have been correctly retained.
At the same time, around 93.7 lakh voters are expected to receive notices from the electoral authorities over identified anomalies or failure to establish linkage with the earlier electoral records. The Election Registration Officers (EROs) will conduct hearings to determine the eligibility and status of these voters. The hearings are scheduled to begin from August 17 and continue until October 10. The Election Commission is expected to release further details, including the draft-roll figures, through Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy.
