Sanjay Manjrekar Calls for Strict Action Against Yashasvi Jaiswal, Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Young Indian cricketers have increasingly been displaying an aggressive attitude on the field, with incidents involving Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal drawing attention. Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has urged the ICC and BCCI to deal more firmly with such incidents. He argued that failing to impose stronger penalties could encourage young players to repeat similar behaviour, which would neither benefit the sport nor their careers.

The Vaibhav Suryavanshi incident occurred during India A’s tri-series against Sri Lanka A in June. After being dismissed, Suryavanshi reportedly exchanged words with Sri Lankan player Vishen Halambage, with the situation escalating before teammates intervened. No disciplinary action was taken against either player. In Jaiswal’s case, however, the match referee imposed a penalty of 25 per cent of his match fee following an incident during the Test series. Manjrekar believes consistent and stricter disciplinary measures would help maintain discipline while protecting the long-term interests of young cricketers.
