Ever since Donald Trump became the President of the United States, he opened a trade war with India. Trump imposed heavy tariffs on Indian products. While launching tariff attacks on one side, the U.S. has also been trying to reach a trade deal with India on the other. Discussions on a trade agreement between the two countries have been happening for several months, but no conclusion has been reached yet (bilateral trade agreement).
In this context, U.S. Trade Representative Jameson Greer recently made interesting remarks. Speaking at a Senate Appropriations Subcommittee meeting in Washington, he said that India is coming forward with remarkable offers as part of the trade deal. He mentioned that India is offering proposals that the U.S. has never received before in history. However, Greer stated that India is showing resistance specifically regarding certain crops, meat, and agricultural products (US farm access demand).
Currently, Indian and American teams are holding talks with U.S. Deputy Trade Representatives (India–US economic relations). Indian Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agarwal initiated the talks on the first day. Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal also stated at an event that the discussions are progressing well and that both countries are moving toward a bilateral trade agreement.
