Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has called for a stronger focus on the country’s “resistance economy” as Tehran faces mounting economic pressure. He said greater reliance on domestic production is key to addressing major challenges including inflation, unemployment, price management and market stability. Khamenei also urged authorities to gradually reduce the prominent role of the US dollar in Iran’s economy.
Khamenei called for increased investment in productive sectors and stressed that imports should be used carefully when domestic production is insufficient. His remarks come amid intensifying US economic pressure, including the launch of Operation Economic Outcast on August 24, 2026, which Washington says is aimed at cutting Iran’s economic lifelines. Tehran is consequently placing greater emphasis on domestic production and economic resilience to withstand external pressure.
