The 88th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle was held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi under the leadership of Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya. Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir, wrestler Sangram Singh and actor Madhurima Tuli were among those who participated. The event was organised simultaneously at more than 25,000 locations across the country, with over 5,000 people taking part at the Delhi venue. Mandaviya said the edition was especially significant as India is set to host the 18th BRICS Summit on September 12 and 13.
Mandaviya highlighted the benefits of cycling for fitness, reducing pollution and easing traffic congestion, and urged people to make cycling a regular habit. Gautam Gambhir, who flagged off the cycling ride, said a fitter India would be a stronger and more self-reliant India. Representatives from BRICS partner nations and senior government officials also attended the programme. An ITBP brass band performance added to the festive atmosphere as participants cycled and joined fitness activities with enthusiasm.
