Google has introduced a new tool in Gemini that allows users to detect AI-generated or AI-edited videos. Users can upload a video to the Gemini app or website to check if it was created using Google’s AI models. This feature is available globally and follows a similar AI image detection tool added last month.
The tool uses Google’s SynthID watermarking technology, which can detect AI-generated or modified content across text, images, audio, and videos even if cropped or edited externally. Initially limited to academicians and select partners, the video detection tool is now available to more users.
To use it, upload a video and ask Gemini, “Was it created or edited using AI?” The system analyzes audio and visuals separately and reports any SynthID watermarks. Currently, it supports videos up to 100MB and 90 seconds long and is available in all languages and countries supported by Gemini.
