The future of street food is rolling in — quite literally. Shin Starr, a Silicon Valley–based startup, is redefining mobile dining with its AI-powered robotic food truck, set to serve Korean BBQ at TechCrunch Disrupt 2025.Founded by Kish Shin, the company wanted to go beyond the “robotic cooking” hype. Their goal was simple — to make hot, fresh, and delicious food accessible and affordable, even on the move.At the heart of the truck is Autowok, Shin Starr’s proprietary AI-driven cooking system that automates frying, serving, and cleaning. A human chef — led by Korean culinary expert Han Sungil, who has managed over 18 restaurants in Korea — preps the ingredients, and the robot takes care of the rest.
The Autowok can even time meals with precision: if the truck is 15 minutes away from your location, it starts cooking your meal exactly 7 minutes before arrival — ensuring your wagyu galbi or tteokbokki arrives sizzling fresh.Shin Starr’s ambitions go beyond food trucks. The company is now launching an automated micro-restaurant inside a major California airport, designed to serve high-quality food 24/7 — a major advantage when all other eateries are closed. As CMO Tord Olav Dønnum explains, “At midnight, when everything shuts down, travelers still want real food. Our system lets them enjoy a hot Korean meal instead of a cold sandwich or vending machine snack.”With Gower Smith joining as Chief Product Officer — known for his expertise in automated retail with brands like Best Buy and CVS — Shin Starr aims to expand to airports, hotels, hospitals, and college campuses, offering premium meals anytime, anywhere.
Their robotic kitchen’s precision, efficiency, and flavor may just mark the next evolution in AI-powered dining — blending technology, taste, and timing in one futuristic food experience.
