Onions at ₹35 per Kg in Rythu Bazars - Key Move by AP Government

The Andhra Pradesh government has taken a series of measures to control the prices of essential commodities ahead of the festive season. It has decided to sell onions at ₹35 per kg through Rythu Bazars and special counters across the state. The initiative will be implemented with the support of the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation (NCCF). The Cabinet Sub-Committee on Price Stabilisation reviewed the prices of onions, palm oil, red gram and other essential commodities at a meeting held at the Secretariat.

The ministers decided to request the Centre to allocate 1.20 lakh tonnes of red gram to the state and take steps to process and sell it through Rythu Bazars and special counters. Officials were also directed to explore measures to make palm oil available at subsidised prices. The government said rice is already being sold at lower prices through Rythu Bazars and special counters at 651 locations across the state. Authorities were instructed to procure 10,000 tonnes of KNM variety rice from rice millers in Nellore district and sell it through the counters.
