Meta has announced a new partnership with Broadcom to develop multiple generations of custom AI chips. The collaboration focuses on advancing Meta’s in house Meta Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) processors, which power its AI applications and services. The company plans to introduce four new generations of these chips over the next two years.
The MTIA chips are designed to handle large-scale AI operations, including powering generative AI features and recommendation systems across Meta’s platforms. With the growing demand for advanced AI capabilities, Meta aims to strengthen its infrastructure by working closely with Broadcom. The partnership will involve chip design, advanced packaging, and high-speed networking technologies to improve performance and efficiency.
Both companies are targeting large-scale computing capacity, with plans to generate over one gigawatt of compute power initially and expand further in the future. The collaboration is part of Meta’s long-term vision to scale its AI ecosystem and move towards advanced intelligence systems. As part of this development, Broadcom CEO Hock Tan will step down from Meta’s board and take on an advisory role.
