Google is reportedly testing a new feature for its Gemini AI platform that could make switching from rival chatbots much easier. According to reports, the tech giant is developing an “Import AI Chats” option that allows users to transfer their complete chat history from other platforms such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Claude, or Grok directly into Gemini. This move is aimed at reducing ecosystem lock-in and helping users continue ongoing projects without losing context or having to retrain Gemini about their preferences.
The feature was spotted as a beta option in Gemini’s web client, suggesting it is close to public release. Users can reportedly access it through the attachments icon below the text box, where a pop-up explains the steps to import chat history by downloading it from another AI platform and uploading the file to Gemini. However, some aspects remain unclear, including how Gemini will handle imported preferences, contextual memory, or potential conflicts with existing user data once chats are integrated.
