As China rapidly advances in humanoid robot development, an unexpected incident has gone viral on social media. On March 21, during a public dance performance in Shaanxi province, a humanoid robot accidentally struck a young boy’s face. Event staff quickly intervened and attempted to move the robot away from the area.
The robot was identified as the G1 humanoid model developed by Unitree Robotics. Weighing around 35 kilograms and priced at $13,500, it is designed for research, education, and commercial use. Despite the incident, the robot continued performing its programmed routine, drawing attention online.
Social media users have expressed mixed reactions. While some called the performance dangerous, others emphasized the need for thorough testing before deploying robots in public spaces. A similar incident occurred in Russia, where a robot fell on stage during a tech showcase, highlighting potential risks in early-stage robotics demonstrations.
