Amazon has reportedly been fined ₹1 lakh by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) over the sale of sweets marketed as “Shri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad”. The action relates to products allegedly sold without authorisation from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. Amazon Seller Services Private Limited was reportedly directed to pay the penalty within 15 days.
According to the reported case, sweets including ghee laddoos, khoya laddoos, boondi laddoos and cow-milk sweets were listed on Amazon under the ‘Bihar Brothers’ brand by Chandu Trading Company and marketed as Ram Mandir prasad. The CCPA examined a complaint filed by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) in January 2024. The authority reportedly held that using the temple’s name for commercial sales without authorisation could mislead consumers and hurt the religious sentiments of devotees.
