OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT for Teens in India, a dedicated experience for users aged 13 to 17 that comes with stronger safety protections, parental oversight and learning-focused features. The company’s Head of Strategy and Global Affairs, India, Pragya Misra, said the aim is to make AI use more age-appropriate while helping teenagers learn and explore responsibly.
The teen experience includes Study Mode, which guides students through questions and step-by-step explanations instead of simply providing answers. It also offers learning tools such as quizzes, visualisations, homework reminders and Study Hours. OpenAI has strengthened safeguards around areas including self-harm, violence, eating disorders, dangerous activities and sexually explicit content. Linked parents can manage selected settings, set Quiet Hours and receive safety notifications in certain high-risk situations.
