Demand for senior technology leaders in India is rising despite a slowdown in overall tech hiring. Companies across sectors are actively seeking experienced professionals to lead artificial intelligence adoption, digital transformation, and global operations from India. Both domestic firms and multinational corporations are increasing hiring mandates for leadership roles, particularly in global capability centres. Experts note a significant increase in hiring at director, vice president, and higher levels over the past few quarters.
Industries such as financial services, manufacturing, healthcare, retail, and aviation are recruiting technology leaders for roles including heads of technology, digital, and artificial intelligence, as well as leaders in engineering, data, cybersecurity, and cloud platforms. Compensation for these roles ranges from around ₹1 crore to over ₹5 crore annually. Leadership hiring has grown by 10–12% compared to last year, while hiring for digital and technology leadership roles has surged by more than 70%.
India has become a major hub for global capability centres, with over 1,800 such centres employing nearly 2 million professionals. More than 6,500 global leadership roles are already based in the country, and this number is expected to rise further. Experts highlight that technology leadership is now considered central to business growth and strategy, rather than just a support function, driving strong demand for top-tier talent across industries.
