Tech giant Google has reportedly signed a classified artificial intelligence agreement with the United States Department of Defense, according to The Information. The deal allows the Pentagon to use Google’s AI systems for any lawful government purpose. This move places Google alongside other major AI companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and xAI, which have also secured similar agreements.
The report states that the Pentagon has signed multiple contracts with leading AI firms in 2025, each valued at up to 200 million dollars. The agreement includes provisions that allow the US government to request modifications to AI safety settings and content filters, ensuring the systems can be adjusted for specific operational needs.
However, the contract specifies that the AI technology is not intended for domestic mass surveillance or autonomous weapon systems without human oversight. It also clarifies that the agreement does not give Google control over government decisions on AI usage. A Google Public Sector spokesperson confirmed that this deal is an amendment to an existing contract with the US government.
