Nasser Hussain Slams Pakistan’s Selection Call

Former England captain Nasser Hussain has strongly criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to bring Saim Ayub into the squad for the third Test against England. Hussain questioned the move to send Ayub straight from the Caribbean Premier League into a Test match in English conditions without sufficient first-class match practice. Ayub had a disappointing outing in the third Test, registering ducks in both innings and being dismissed by Ollie Robinson on both occasions. Hussain also criticized Pakistan’s frequent changes to players and coaching staff, saying such an approach does not serve Test cricket well.

To support his argument, Hussain referred to former India opener Virender Sehwag, who also struggled in similar circumstances in England after arriving without adequate match practice. Sehwag was dismissed for ducks in both innings at the same venue despite being an experienced player. Hussain questioned how Pakistan could expect Ayub to immediately perform after bringing him in from another format and foreign conditions. While he said Ayub must take some responsibility for his dismissal, Hussain insisted that those responsible for the selection decision should also be held accountable.
