A major debate has erupted in the artificial intelligence community after Dario Amodei warned that advanced AI systems could replace a large number of entry level white collar jobs within the next few years. In an old interview, he said sectors like technology, finance, law, and consulting could see significant job disruption as AI begins to replace human labour. His comments have sparked widespread discussion about a possible employment crisis.
However, Amodei’s views have faced strong criticism from other leading figures in the field. Yann LeCun dismissed his claims, saying he “knows nothing” about labour market impacts of technological change. LeCun argued that AI leaders and CEOs should not be considered experts on employment economics and suggested relying on professional economists instead. The disagreement has further intensified ongoing global debate about AI’s real impact on jobs.
