Wine shops across Andhra Pradesh will remain closed in view of the upcoming municipal elections. The restrictions on liquor sales will come into effect from 5 PM on October 30 and continue until 5 PM on November 1. As part of the election-related restrictions, liquor sales will be prohibited during the 48 hours preceding polling. Although wine shops are scheduled to reopen on the evening of November 1, they will close again on November 3, the day of vote counting. The ban will remain in force until the counting process is completed in the evening.
The closures are being implemented as part of the Model Code of Conduct to ensure that the elections are conducted peacefully and fairly. Officials have already begun taking steps to prevent any untoward incidents during the polling process. Tight security arrangements are being made at polling stations across the state. Tensions between political parties were reported during the nomination process, prompting authorities to take additional precautions to prevent similar incidents on polling day and maintain law and order.
