The Tamil Nadu government has announced a major relief for candidates preparing for government jobs by increasing the upper age limit for direct recruitment by five years. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay issued the order in response to requests from competitive examination aspirants who were seeking additional time to become eligible for government employment. The revised provision is aimed at giving more opportunities to unemployed youth who may have crossed the existing age limit.
According to the government announcement, the relaxation will come into effect from October 30, 2026, and remain applicable for five years. The additional five-year concession will also be provided over and above the existing age relaxations available to eligible reserved categories, including BC, BC(M), MBC and DNC, SC and ST candidates, as well as destitute widows. The decision is expected to benefit a large number of candidates preparing for various Tamil Nadu government recruitment examinations.
