Apple is reportedly expanding into new AI powered wearable categories, including a smart pendant designed to be worn around the neck. The device is expected to feature multiple sensors and computer vision cameras capable of understanding a user’s surroundings and answering context-based questions, such as identifying objects or interpreting what the user is looking at.
According to reports highlighted by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, the company is developing its own visual AI models to power these experiences across upcoming wearables, including smart glasses and future audio devices. These models are intended to make environment-aware assistance a core feature, enabling devices to take actions based on real-world context rather than simply responding to voice commands.
The move aligns with broader plans outlined by CEO Tim Cook to introduce new AI driven product categories and services. Current visual features rely partly on technologies from OpenAI, but Apple is said to be working toward more in-house capabilities. The upcoming wearables are expected to be lightweight, with heavy AI processing handled by connected smartphones to maintain slim designs and longer battery life.
