Anthropic’s efforts to resolve its ongoing dispute with the United States government over export controls on its latest artificial intelligence models have yet to yield a breakthrough. According to reports, senior executives from the AI company met with officials from the Trump administration on June 15, but discussions ended without a resolution. The conflict began after the US Commerce Department directed Anthropic to suspend access to its newly launched AI models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, citing national security concerns and potential cybersecurity risks.
To comply with the directive, Anthropic temporarily disabled access to both models for all users, including US citizens. The company maintains that the government’s concerns stem from a limited security vulnerability rather than a broader threat. Meanwhile, the development has reignited discussions around AI sovereignty worldwide, particularly in India, where industry leaders are calling for greater investment in domestic AI infrastructure and open-source technologies. Experts believe the dispute could have significant implications for the future regulation and deployment of advanced AI systems globally.
