Movies released during the Vinayaka Chavithi holiday season failed to receive the expected response at the box office. Films such as ‘Epic’, ‘Mahendragiri Varahi’, ‘Sardar 2’, ‘Mandadi’ and ‘Maremma’ targeted the festive holidays but could not fully connect with audiences. ‘Epic’ reportedly failed to impress the youth, while ‘Mahendragiri Varahi’ also received a lukewarm response. ‘Sardar 2’ and ‘Maremma’ performed even below expectations. ‘Mandadi’ managed to fare relatively better, but limited promotions appear to have affected its box-office prospects.
Despite the extended festive holidays, theatres did not witness the expected rush. Easy ticket availability on booking platforms has also indicated the lack of strong demand. With the films failing to deliver the anticipated results, producers have reportedly stayed away from success meets and promotional events. Tamil release ‘Sardar 2’ also failed to cross the ₹10 crore mark. Meanwhile, some shows of films such as ‘Irumudi’ and ‘Hanuman’ are witnessing better audience interest than the new releases during the festive season.
