Android Phones Compete with the iPhone Pro

Pre-orders for Apple’s new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max have started this Saturday. The premium models rarely receive discounts, especially so soon after launch, making their pricing a key point of comparison with flagship Android smartphones. Both models feature Apple’s first 2nm A20 Pro chip, which reaches speeds of up to 4.93GHz and delivers impressive Geekbench performance. Apple also promises improved battery life, particularly on the Pro Max, while the 48MP main camera gets a variable aperture.

The iPhone 18 Pro faces competition from the Samsung Galaxy S26, which features a 6.3-inch 120Hz LTPO display and a significantly lower price. However, Apple offers a more advanced camera setup with a 48MP 4x telephoto and 48MP ultra wide camera. In the larger segment, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is considerably cheaper than the iPhone 18 Pro Max and offers a 200MP main camera, additional telephoto lenses, a 50MP ultra wide camera, Privacy Display and S Pen support.

Google’s Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL are also alternatives, featuring Tensor G6 processors and capable camera systems. The Pixel 11 Pro comes with a 50MP main camera, 48MP 5x telephoto and 48MP ultra wide camera, while both models support Pixelsnap magnetic wireless charging. However, Google’s chipset still falls behind Apple and Samsung in performance. Samsung’s Galaxy S26+ currently carries a discount, while the S26 FE may be worth considering for Prime subscribers.

The bigger foldable segment is also heating up with Apple’s first foldable, the iPhone Duo, set to begin pre-orders in mid-October, followed by sales a week later. Its key rival will be Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8, which is thinner and lighter, while Apple offers stylus support and an under display camera. Samsung also has the larger Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, while Google offers the Pixel 11 Pro Fold. In Europe, the Honor Magic V6 and Motorola Razr Fold add further competition with large displays, capable cameras and high capacity batteries.
