Microsoft has reportedly announced a voluntary exit programme that may be available to around 60,000 employees worldwide. This figure refers to employees who may qualify for the offer, not the number expected to leave the company. According to media reports, eligible employees at Level 70 or below may be considered, with participation limited to selected teams. These reportedly include certain groups within AI Experiences, Copilot, Finance, Human Resources, Xbox, and Windows + Devices. Some teams, including parts of Marketing, Commercial Business and Security, have reportedly been excluded. Employees are advised to check their individual communications from Microsoft to confirm eligibility and the applicable conditions.
The programme is expected to provide eligible employees who choose to leave with financial compensation and career-planning resources. The compensation may depend on factors such as length of service and base salary, while health insurance and other benefits will be governed by the terms of each individual offer. Reports indicate that eligible employees in India may need to respond by December 1, with departures potentially scheduled by December 31. These dates and conditions should be confirmed through official employee communications. Meanwhile, Microsoft has announced plans to invest $20.5 billion in India between 2025 and 2029, focusing on areas including cloud and AI infrastructure, and has set a target of training two crore people in AI skills by 2030. The voluntary exit programme appears to be part of the company’s workforce planning amid changing business priorities.
