The Karnataka government is considering major infrastructure improvements along Bengaluru’s busy Hennur-Bagalur Road to reduce traffic congestion and improve connectivity to Kempegowda International Airport. Bengaluru Development Affairs Minister Krishna Byre Gowda recently inspected the ongoing white-topping and road improvement works following complaints from commuters about delays. The works have reportedly been underway for around 18 months. During the inspection, the minister directed officials to complete the pending work within the next two months and accelerate the road-widening process.
The minister also reviewed infrastructure works between Hennur Junction and Geddalahalli alongside KR Puram MLA Byrathi Basavaraj. He stressed the need to upgrade drainage systems, repair stormwater drains, improve footpaths and widen walkways to prevent waterlogging during rainfall. To address growing traffic volumes, the government plans to study the feasibility of an elevated corridor between Hennur and Bagalur. If the corridor is not feasible, flyovers may be considered at major signal junctions. The proposed improvements aim to make the route signal-free over the next five years and provide smoother access to the airport. Final construction plans will depend on the feasibility study and the government’s decisions.
