Cyclone Arnab is creating uncertainty around municipal election campaigning in coastal Andhra Pradesh. According to the supplied report, the weather department has warned that the system could affect 12 districts, with Konaseema, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and East Godavari among the areas facing potential impacts. The report also warns of heavy rainfall exceeding 20 centimetres in some coastal areas and wind speeds of 115–125 kmph, potentially reaching 140 kmph at times. Authorities are reportedly preparing to respond to the developing weather situation.
The cyclone threat is also affecting candidates’ campaign plans as the municipal election campaign is scheduled to continue until October 29, with polling planned for November 1. Candidates are increasingly relying on digital outreach through WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, voice calls and voice messages to reach voters. Voter slips are also being shared through mobile phones. The election schedule may be reviewed depending on the cyclone’s intensity and the conditions that follow, but any change would depend on an official decision by the authorities.
