BCCI Changes Are Long Overdue, Says Sunil Gavaskar

Former India captain and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar has said the time has come for key changes in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He suggested making greater use of former cricketers’ experience to take Indian cricket forward. Gavaskar proposed forming a special committee comprising legends such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Ravi Shastri, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh and Virender Sehwag.

Recalling his tenure as chairman of the BCCI Technical Committee, Gavaskar said several important decisions were taken, including replacing the zonal system in the Ranji Trophy with Elite and Plate tournaments. He also spoke about changes to the points system. Gavaskar suggested expanding the role of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) beyond selecting coaches and selectors, allowing it to take decisions on key matters such as domestic and international schedules. He said the BCCI president and secretary could also be part of the proposed committee.
